Online Security: So Who AM I Really Connected To?

This workshop is about the fundamentals of online identity - It will look at the questions:
• What is identity?
• Who are you?
• What assurance can I have in an identity when it’s verified remotely and over untrusted infrastructure?
The workshop will look at the issues around initial registration and how can you establish an identity and use that in the future without having to re-establish it for every relationship. It will look at identity assurance, trust models and the ability to use trusted credentials issued by one organisation to provide a level of assurance to other organisations, including liability models and evidential requirements. Other areas covered will be online fraud and identity theft.
Following this workshop, participants will have a much better understanding around the issues of identity management and registration and levels of identity assurance that are possible online. They will understand some of the questions that need to be answered and the limitations of what is possible over the Internet and other untrusted networks. Participants to this session will come away with a much better understanding of the cost-effective methods that can be used to implement assured identity and reduce identity theft online.
