Applications are by design programmed for ease of use – but this feature itself presents security challenges. AppSec is a fast growing area of Information Security, and every year sees a geometric increase in companies offering services to test, protect and remediate application flaws at the coding and firewall level. One critical area frequently overlooked is in contracted application and web application services – especially in the SMB market – where a clear trend is emerging of security being a very secondary consideration to applicability. The common weaknesses and exploits in applications will be examined in this session, as well as exploring the rationale behind the technologies and tools available to bridge these vulnerabilities.
