    Seminar Details
By the end of 2008, a new spam trend emerged online – the breaking of CAPTCHAs to create large numbers of online webmail accounts and accounts on social networking sites for spamming purposes, a phenomenon that has become a powerful business model within the underground “shadow” economy. Over the past year, CAPTCHAs have remained a valuable security measure for online business and spammers have evolved their techniques for breaking them. The ongoing challenge in designing a good CAPTCHA is that it needs to be simple enough for most humans, including the visually impaired, to pass the test, but also difficult enough so that automated computer programs cannot. As CAPTCHAs come increasingly under attack, what will be the outlook be for spam and other threats such as those against social networking sites?
